Sacred Companioning is a term I use to cover a broad category of services that includes any intentional relationship aimed at assisting spiritual growth and discipleship. We are not designed to live our faith apart from others and not equipped to handle life’s complexities without the aid of the wisdom of others. No one arrives at their destination in Christ without help. God grants an array of gifts to the Body of Christ for the common good of everyone. I am committed to using my gifts on behalf of this purpose.Sacred Companioning is my way of coming along side of others and assisting in their spiritual development.

 

How do we navigate the complex challenges that life throws at us? Where do we go when

• Relational conflict deeply affects our life?

• A job loss presents a whole new set of challenges?

• A family crisis emerges that dominates everything?

• We become stuck in our faith and fall victim to spiritual lethargy?

• We struggle in dealing with nagging spiritual baggage?

• Or, life has become too overwhelming to sort through?

The list could go on.

 

Perhaps your circle of friends, or a Bible study group, or a church staff member offers you the help you need, Great! But if you don’t have that, you might just need a listening ear or an understanding heart, or an experienced soul to come along side of you. Perhaps you need a fresh voice or a different viewpoint, or an unbiased heart that can offer grace-filled counsel or new forms of prayer. I know…I’ve been there.

 

There are several categories or types of Spiritual Companioning that I feel competent in offering to others.

1. Spiritual Coaching—Spiritual Coaching is a relational partnership that helps a person align their life, decisions, and goals with God’s purposes. The primary focus of coaching centers on enhancing future outcomes through spiritual insights and action-oriented strategies. This focus helps individuals move from their current state to where they feel God wants them to be. It is primarily an “inside-out” process, wherein the coach seeks to draw out of a person his or her passions, giftings, and emerging awareness of a God-given calling. If you’re looking for help in navigating a transition in life, or seeking to take the next step in your Christian journey in a safe and trustworthy environment through an authentic relationship, spiritual coaching may be what you are looking for.

2. Spiritual Guidance—Spiritual guidance is an integral part of the Christian faith, aiding believers in understanding and applying Christian truth to their lives. It plays a crucial role in personal transformation, shaping actions, and maintaining moral boundaries, while also providing support in navigating faith-related challenges. Spiritual guidance helps clarify and confirm the way ahead, discern divine truths, and facilitate healthy actions on matters related to an individual’s personal challenges in life. Spiritual guidance integrates faith into the healing process to help individuals find meaning in life's challenges. While spiritual guidance does not offer solutions to problems, it can assist you in finding better ways of navigating through them. If you're looking for help in making your faith practical and applicable, spiritual guidance may be for you. 

3. Pastoral Counseling— Pastoral counseling can help with a wide range of issues. It’s often used for things like grief, depression, anxiety, trauma, marriage and family problems, or addictions. It can also help during major life changes like illness, divorce, or the death of a loved one. But what makes it unique is that it also helps with spiritual concerns. This might include doubts about faith, questions about suffering, or struggles with forgiveness, guilt, or purpose. Some people seek pastoral counseling for premarital counseling or to deepen their spiritual growth. In short, if you’re going through something hard and want support that honors your beliefs, pastoral counseling might be just what you need.

 

It is not important to figure out what label or category your situation falls under, what is important is that if you find yourself with any of the situations above, I would love the honor of working with you. I believe that God has gifted and equipped me to assist you with any matter that life throws at you. And if I can’t, I can probably direct you to someone who can.
